Yes officer, I'm trying to illegally smuggle in a single orange to screw over the domestic citrus industry, which I'm currently hundreds miles away from California and Florida in the middle of no where North Dakota. For the $300 fine, the broader agents should have also help clean out my hiking boots and equipment since I'm clearly transporting foreign soil samples into the states in there.
Anyways, I'll probably just stick with package foods for my next Canadian trip so I don't accidentally cause an act of ecological terrorism.
My buddies and I just finished a huge backpacking trip and we were in a rush to catch a flight in the States. As a result our car was a complete mess from just tossing our gear into the trunk and rear seats. Apparently one of the items lodged somewhere in the mess was a left over orange purchased in Canada for consumption on the trail in Canada.
My first time to the USA, a Canadian permanent resident with a Pakistani passport, to meet a friend coming over, also for the first time directly from Karachi Pakistan on a business trip.
It's what you would expect at border crossing, however, not as bad as our previous experience at another border crossing in Montana. We crossed in the middle of the night so it went quickly. It is relatively easy to navigate. Staff wasn't completely rude as Montana's either, however, someone should teach them how to take a joke ;)
visted here on my way to charleston, good place.
Was asked to fill a form, had an interview and my vehicle searched BUT I gotta say that they were highly professional and I DIDNOT experience any bias or any sort of discrimination at any given time.
It's a shame the female officer was so cute and I understand that she was just doing her job but this was a ridiculous situation. I drove an hour out of my way to come back to this border crossing instead of another for a different road trip route for a knife I was honest about and had (temporarily) turned over. Got it back from the Canada side in 10 minutes tops and was stupidly honest about it again to the US side only to get put in a holding room for an hour before sitting in the waiting room for another while my knife was seized indefinitely. Thieving from their own citizens. I bought it legally in the states. I recommend crossing further west at the smaller station but if you're gonna cross here it's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
Crossed on 23rd August 2016, travelling from Calgary Alberta to Minneapolis Minnesota.
The staff i came accross was very grounded. They greeted me with smiles and suddenly it changed to a hightened level of alertness upon seeing my passport which I expected given where I was coming from.
Huge assholes.
Hats off to Officer Anderson and his 2 team members I came across. My visit to the USA was a very pleasant one.
